Considering the fact that other service providers have already upgraded to 4G LTe , I'm actually what really took them so long to actually think of launching 4G here. In Airtel's home country (India) , They have 4G services while we don't have 4G on their network here.

According to an insider who pleaded anonymity , said Airtel will be rolling out their 4G LTE network this December to 3 states which includes Lagos, Abuja and Port-Harcourt before other states will follow.

You’ll recall that  Airtel NG partnered with Ericsson for core network upgrade in November. 

Airtel signed a three-year contract with Ericsson to transform its core network in Nigeria thereby enabling faster mobile broadband.

However, I'd advise you take this info with a pinch of salt until this information has been fully verified.
